To: Hazrat Moulana Abdur-Raheem Sahib Motala (May Allah lengthen his lofty shadow)

Date: 22 nd Rabi-Uthani 1386/ 10 th August 1966 [Wednesday]

Assalaamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Dearest Respected Moulana Abdur-Raheem Sahib

After the sunnah greeting, god willing the surgical treatment is complete. I reminded Hazrat of your then impending procedure this morning and he said, “You did well reminding me.” Anyway, as soon as you receive this have someone write on your behalf to inform me as regards to your health. I have not written to Africa yet, but I hope to soon; hopefully in the next day or two, inshallah.

People here are quite upset, they constantly enquire after you; it is as though one of their own is unwell. Moulana Kifayatullah Sahib is planning to visit you in Surat , but is undecided on when, I will write to inform you in advance.

In contrast to the last few years this worthless one is relatively well, this is owing to Hazrat's special attention. On one occasion, he surreptitiously told me to purchase an umbrella and that he would pay for it. Later he gave the money to Molvi Abdullah and three of us. I cannot presume to enumerate his bounteousness.

Only two or three days ago, he dismissed everybody after a meal and kept Molvi Talha, Molvi Haroon, and I back and proceeded to offer us mango and sweetmeats. Hazrat's favours are unremitting, whether relating to food, drink or anything else. May Almighty Allah sanction me to appreciate its worth and make it a means to success in this world and the next.

Subsequent to the arrival of your letter, Hazrat asked, “Should I reply by way of card or envelope?”, “By envelope.” I replied, inadvertently. Consequently, Hazrat used an envelope even though I had nothing important to write. Kindly pray profusely for my exams. Reminiscent to last year, Hazrat will yet again be absent from the madrassa, as a result things here become very difficult for me, last year my papers were not up to standard. Therefore, pray Almighty Allah grants me the love of Hazrat that facilitates me to undertake my work without undue agitation.

Some days ago Hakim Ilyas' young boy, who visited Hazrat each morning for dumm passed away; he was around 10 months old. Molvi Talha Sahib enquires after you constantly. What more can I write, everything else here is fine.

That is all. Salaam

Yusuf
