Jamaah

Jamaah means group or congregation; normally used for congregational prayers but also used to mean a group of people.

Janaazah

The word janaazah means the funeral and burial of a Muslim. Islam has made the funeral of a Muslim undemanding and alleviated from the dead person's family unnecessary distress or expense. Islam has emphasized respect of the deceased and Ta'ziat (sympathy for the bereaved) without lamenting. The mayyat (corpse) is given Ghusl, is shrouded with a Kafn (simple grave clothes). Janazah Salaah is performed as a prayer for the deceased and the mayyat is buried in a simple grave without pomp or show of wealth. A widow has a specific waiting period after a husbands death.

Jinn

Jinn (Genie) are a creation made by Allah from fire whereas human beings are created from clay. Although they are invisible to human eyes, Jinns can see us and they can take the form of humans, animals or objects and can have specific supernatural abilities. Like human beings they are also entrusted with responsibilities (careers, family life, etc) and are required to profess and practice Islam. They too will be rewarded for their righteousness and will receive punishment for their wickedness. Some practice Islam and do good whilst others deviate towards Shaytaan and evil.

Judgement Day

After Qiyamah (Doomsday) everyone will die and then be brought back to life on the Day of Resurrection. Everyone will be judged according to their deeds committed in the Life of this temporary world. On the basis of their deeds they will be sent to Jahannam (Hell) or Jannah (Heaven) either directly or indirectly after being punished for any unforgiven sin. Allah can choose to forgive whatever He wills. May Allah the Most Merciful forgive all our sins, Ameen.

Jummah

Jummah means Friday. It is the 5th day of the week and is considered the most blessed day of the week. On Friday normal mid-day prayer are complimented with a special prayer including a khutbah (sermon) in Arabic. A Ghusl before Jummah prayers is recommended as is reciting Surah 18 (Al-Kahf) of the Holy Quran before Asr Salaah. One should recite as much Durood (Salaatus-Salaam) upon Prophet Muhammad as possible on the night of Jummah (commencing at dusk on Thursday Night) and on the day of Jummah (Friday before dusk).
